Ever since childhood and the realization that school doesn’t happen on Saturdays or Sundays, there’s been something magical about Friday. Yeah, it’s still a day of work but it’s the *last* day of work, and you get two whole days off after that. As a result of this knowledge, Friday becomes unique and must be cherished — protected, even.
So we include these wonderful Fridays in on our weekends free time plans, usually the evening side of the day. Friday night sets the tone. A great Friday night can lead into a fabulous rest of the weekend. There’s a lot of potential energy in a night like this.
That raises the question of what exactly to do on a Friday night? There’s really only about 6 hours to spend before Saturday morning, and sleep is usually the last option (even though it’s not a bad choice at all).
I have a theory that the younger you are - or the younger at heart - the less time you want to spend on Friday night doing things you could do any old day of the week. Friday night means a night outside the box...a night for partying! Celebrate the atmosphere that comes with the end of the work week. Go outside. See what other Friday Nighters are doing. After all, Friday won’t mean as much when you retire and you can do whatever on any day, right?
For those of us who still like to pump as much party we can into Friday night and float happily on into the weekend, I salute you. For those who still find a way to cherish Friday despite working all week, I admire the hell out of your spirit.
Cheers to keeping Friday night magical, even if it just means kicking back with Netflix and more snacks than you’d usually kill off faster than you would on a Tuesday.
